The Rotarex Metrology Technicians team consists of five experts specializing in dimensional and non-dimensional metrology. Each member plays a key role in ensuring precision and quality.

WHAT YOUR TEAM IS DOING? 

Dimensional metrology specialists at Rotarex handle the distribution of calibers for production team, ensuring the control and maintenance of over 6,500 pieces at the Luxembourg site. They oversee every aspect of measurement instruments, from procurement to proper storage and maintenance, guaranteeing compliance with industry norms and machining plans.
Non-dimensional metrology team-members focus more on assembly. They are working with measurements that are not physically visible or touchable, such as weight for scales, pressure, and force capture.
Metrology technicians primarily support all business units at the Rotarex Lintgen site, they also oversee certain metrology functions across the entire company. Additionally, they maintain constant communication with auditors and clients. 

 

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF A METROLOGY TECHNICIAN THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE PRODUCT CREATION PROCESS? 

Metrology plays a crucial role before the machining process, bridging the gap between R&D and production planning. It ensures precision and compliance from the initial design phase to fabrication.

 

HOW DOES YOUR TYPICAL DAY LOOK LIKE? 

Daily tasks are guided by specialized software that outlines the required control processes for each month. At the same time, it is essential to ensure that production teams receive the necessary instruments and calibers, as production cannot begin without proper control. No two days are the same.  

 

WHAT ARE THE SPECIFIC CHALLENGES OF A METROLOGY TECHNICIAN’S WORK?

The role of a Metrology Technician at Rotarex is highly specialized due to the extensive variety of products we handle, far more than most companies. Each caliber must be precisely manufactured according to specific norms in quality, machining processes, and industry standards, which vary depending on the country and the type of gas being used. 


Another key challenge is staying focused. With constant requests for assistance, technicians often need to switch tasks quickly, balancing scheduled control processes with on-the-spot problem-solving.


Another difficulty is the diversity of control operations required for different products. It is essential to have a precise understanding of each procedure, following the exact specifications outlined by R&D.

 

WHAT ARE THE TEAM’S DAY TO DAY INTERACTIONS? 

Metrology Technicians collaborate daily with Production, R&D, Quality, and other teams, ensuring precision and reliability across all processes.

 

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR WORK? 

Constant Communication: This role involves daily interactions with a wide range of people, making human contact a rewarding aspect of the job. Whether collaborating with colleagues or clients, every day brings new discussions and learning opportunities.


Making an Impact: Metrology is essential to production, without precise control, manufacturing wouldn’t be possible. Every part we produce relies on accurate instruments, making us the “guardian angels” of production, ensuring everything meets the highest standards.


Diverse and Multifaceted Work: Our job spans multiple fields, from mechanics and electricity to force measurement. When an issue arises, we analyze it, identify its source, and coordinate with the right specialists to resolve it efficiently

Our superpower is attentiveness, we stay focused and ensure that everyone has the right information to use our instruments effectively. If something isn’t clear, we’re always ready to explain again.
We also have an exceptional memory. With hundreds of products to manage, we often recall details without checking a computer, knowing the right product, caliber, and location instantly.

 

ANY ADVICE FOR SOMEONE INTERESTED IN  JOINING YOUR TEAM? 

Safety is the top priority, as the work involves specialized equipment. 
Stay attentive to details. Be prepared to multitask, prioritize, and learn something new every day. Don’t worry about knowing all the products from the start, you will learn everything step by step. Ask questions; you won’t be alone during the first months. A dedicated colleague will guide you, and the entire team is always happy to explain and provide support.

 

ANY BIG PROJECTS IN 2025? 

Be open and communicative, good dialogue is essential in our team. We value new ideas and encourage process improvements. With shifting priorities based on projects and production needs, adaptability is key. At the same time, precision is everything in metrology. Attention to detail, organization, and a rigorous approach are crucial, without accuracy, there is no metrology. Curiosity is also important, as our work involves a wide range of machines and specialized software, requiring continuous learning and problem-solving.
