Get to know the Infrastructure Projects & Building Services Team

WHAT DOES YOUR TEAM DO?
The team consists of a manager and six staff members: one electromechanical engineer, two mechanical engineers, one site coordinator, one infrastructure coordinator, and one Servitec supervisor. Their mission: to oversee the construction of the new Bissen plant, coordinate contractors, and develop engineering solutions in collaboration with the business units and departments.
Their scope of work covers electromechanical systems, mechanical systems, and facilities (cooling, compressed air, water, and drainage). Among their projects: automated storage of bars, tools, pallets, and crates; centralized emulsion treatment; helium recovery; and processing of brass and stainless steel chips.
WHAT IS A TYPICAL DAY?
No two days are alike: monitoring construction sites, visiting suppliers, attending coordination meetings, tracking quotes, orders, schedules, and budgets—not to mention handling facilities emergencies. The team relies on schedules, budget tracking, technical documentation, and construction management tools such as Approplan. On-site, the team maintains a daily presence: welcoming contractors first thing in the morning, reviewing safety protocols, conducting inspection rounds throughout the site, and being available at the site office to address contractors’ requests.
WHAT ARE THE CHALLENGES OF THE JOB?
Deadlines, coordination among numerous stakeholders, technical and regulatory constraints, and production continuity. Priorities are set based on their impact on safety and business operations: emergencies take precedence, without losing sight of long-term projects.
A recent example: the installation of an emulsion supply system for Selfa’s brass-processing machines by Lumec, completed quickly without interrupting production in an area already in operation. The sequence for drilling holes in walls, access platforms, site cleanliness, and leak tests prior to commissioning —everything was planned down to the last detail.
WHAT KIND OF DAILY INTERACTIONS DOES THE TEAM HAVE?
Production first, to ensure business continuity during construction, followed by HSE and Procurement, and—depending on the project—Maintenance, Quality, IT, Logistics, or R&D.
Communication with external service providers is essential: they are the ones who turn plans into reality, and clear communication ensures that technical requirements are met on-site.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?
The diversity of projects and the opportunity to oversee them from design through completion: seeing a blueprint turn into a building, and then into a fully operational plant, is truly rewarding. Working in the field, in direct contact with teams and challenges, is also one of the highlights of the job.
WHAT IS THE SPECIFIC SKILL THAT MOST DISTINGUISHES YOU?
Versatility and adaptability. Attention to detail and strong organizational skills enable you to manage multiple projects simultaneously and handle unforeseen circumstances, while communication skills, teamwork, and emotional intelligence ensure effective coordination among departments and stakeholders.
ANY ADVICE FOR SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO JOIN YOUR TEAM?
Be curious, attentive, and hands-on; have a clear understanding of the departments’ needs; and don’t hesitate to ask questions. Organization, foresight, responsiveness, and a solid technical understanding are essential—not to mention a positive attitude.
ANY MAJOR PROJECTS OR GOALS FOR 2027?
Complete the work at Bissen under the best possible conditions, then ensure its maintenance, continue with upgrades and compliance efforts, and prepare the greenfield project in Lintgen. The challenge: increasingly complex projects that must be carried out without disrupting production, while incorporating new technologies and meeting safety and energy efficiency requirements.
